Baltic Pipe Project

The entire project comprised the simultaneous construction of two landfall sections of the "Baltic Pipe Project" gas pipeline in Denmark and Poland using hydraulic pipe jacking with an internal diameter of 2,000 mm and lengths of 1,000 and 600 m respectively. Both drives started in shafts, which were designed as rectangular sheet pile boxes with a depth of approx. 10 m.

The drives ran in vertically curved routes (R = 5,000 m and 7,500 m respectively) with the target point in the Baltic Sea.

Once the final position had been reached, the tunnel boring machines were recovered from the water. Once the gas pipeline had been installed, the two microtunnels were backfilled with damming material in some areas.

Construction method: Hydraulic pipe jacking with 2 AVND 2000 AB microtunnelling machines with pressure chamber for inspecting the cutting wheel under compressed air
