Group history
Ed. Züblin AG was founded over 125 years ago by Swiss engineer Eduard Züblin. ZÜBLIN has been a wholly owned subsidiary of STRABAG SE since 2016. Known for its major projects in building construction and civil engineering, ZÜBLIN has developed into one of the leading construction companies in Germany. But ZÜBLIN has also established itself as an important player in Europe and beyond. Since its foundation, the company has impressed with its innovative strength.
ZÜBLIN continues to actively work on shaping and advancing the future of construction in order to make construction sites more sustainable. This includes research into more climate-friendly, new building materials and machines, as well as more advanced production methods. 2023
ZÜBLIN celebrates its 125th anniversary.
2022
Together with STRABAG, a voluntary commitment is being developed that focuses on sustainability. The aim is for the company to achieve climate neutrality step by step by 2040. The joint claim illustrates this process: "Work on Progress"
2021
ZÜBLIN's commitment to a more sustainable construction industry is rewarded. ZÜBLIN is the first company to receive the "Sustainable Construction Site" basic certificate from the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council).
2018
ZÜBLIN is increasingly focusing on digitalization in planning and construction. Planning software, building information modeling (BIM), digital assistants and robots are being used.
2016
STRABAG SE acquires the remaining shares in ZÜBLIN and now owns 100 percent. However, the name ZÜBLIN and its independence as a subsidiary will be retained. For a clearer affiliation, the ZÜBLIN yellow is exchanged for the STRABAG colors red and black.
2013
ZÜBLIN expands its service portfolio in structural timber engineering by integrating the companies MERK Timber and Stephan Holzbau. The company ZÜBLIN Timber is founded.
2006
ZÜBLIN and STRABAG specialize. ZÜBLIN acquires the building construction and civil engineering activities of the German STRABAG AG. This enables ZÜBLIN to increase its market share and sales in these business areas and becomes the new German No. 1.
2005
Following the insolvency of the Walter-Bau Group, BAUHOLDING STRABAG SE acquires shares in the construction companies Heilit + Woerner, DYWIDAG (Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG) and ZÜBLIN. Stuttgart-based Ed. Züblin AG will initially continue to operate as a sister company of STRABAG AG. The other companies will be largely integrated into the STRABAG AG organization.
1998
A milestone is duly celebrated. 100 years of ZÜBLIN.
1990
After reunification, ZÜBLIN sets up branches and subsidiaries in Dresden, Chemnitz, Freiberg, Leipzig, Erfurt, Rostock and Wismar in the new federal states.
1988
ZÜBLIN has a new main shareholder, the Walter family of entrepreneurs from Augsburg. The company acquires 51 percent of ZÜBLIN shares.
1984
The ZÜBLIN head office moves. The cathedral-like building was erected in Stuttgart-Möhringen and has since been known as the ZÜBLIN-House.
1980
ZÜBLIN recognizes the importance of environmental protection in construction at an early stage. With the founding of "Umwelt und Boden Altlastensanierung GmbH", measures are developed to strengthen environmental protection.
1975
ZÜBLIN has developed and patented a new way of constructing ceilings. The space frame system consists of a composite of prefabricated concrete slabs and spatially connected steel bars. This allows the roof to be mounted on the ground.
1973
Thinktank" is founded as the forerunner of today's "Central Technology". This area bundles specialist knowledge independently of projects. A successful model and unique selling point of ZÜBLIN.
1965
Tunnel construction is establishing itself as a new business model.
1945
The company headquarters in Stuttgart were destroyed as a result of the Second World War. ZÜBLIN made a new start in 1953 in the new administration building on the edge of Stuttgart city center. The property also included a vineyard, which is still cultivated by ZÜBLIN today.
1919
After the end of the First World War, Strasbourg becomes French again and the Ed. Züblin company based there is broken up. ZÜBLIN then settles in Stuttgart.
1913
Establishment of our own pipe production facility in Kehl. Production of pipes using spun concrete.
1898
Founding of the engineering company Ed. Züblin in Strasbourg. Distribution of licenses from the reinforced concrete construction pioneer François Hennebique and own pioneering work in reinforced concrete construction.
