New Brinckman Schwerin after-school care center

Location Johannes Robert Becher Str. 17a in Schwerin
The planned building is to be constructed in the Weststadt district of the state capital Schwerin. The Weststadt-Campus, the Goethe-Gymnasium and the John-Brinckman-Grundschule are located opposite to the south.

The new three-storey building, which has no basement and is to be built as a solid construction, will accommodate around 352 after-school children in 16 groups, who will be looked after by 16 employees. Access will be via a central foyer hall with stairs, and there will also be two external staircases on the east and west sides as escape routes. The flat roof is to be extensively greened and later fitted with a photovoltaic system. The load-bearing exterior walls will be made of expanded clay and the ceilings of prestressed concrete hollow planks.

The project is aiming for DGNB "Sustainable Building Site" certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.

Certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB)

Ed. Züblin AG is pursuing several goals with this project: A sustainable construction site organization, the conservation of resources as well as the minimization of emissions, responsibility for the health and well-being of the builders, the cultivation of good neighbourliness and, of course, high-quality construction. For this, Ed. Züblin AG was the first company to be recognized by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Selected measures in the project

  • Prestressed concrete hollow planks

The use of prestressed concrete floorboards saves a considerable amount of CO2.

  • Finished parts

The extensive use of prefabricated parts (exterior walls, interior walls, stairs, ceilings) means that a shorter construction time can be achieved. The volume of waste is also reduced thanks to the prefabricated orders.

  • Measures to prevent pollution from the construction site

The project is located in the city center, so the impact of the construction site will be avoided or reduced as much as possible.

  • Use of energy-efficient construction machinery

It is planned that all motorized equipment and machinery used on the construction site, e.g. earthmoving equipment, compressors, etc., with an output of over 75 kW will be documented and the EU level (energy efficiency class/EEK) they meet will be recorded to ensure that the most energy-efficient construction machinery possible is used.

  • Regional companies and suppliers

Wherever possible, mainly regional companies and suppliers are used in order to reduce transportation and working distances.

  • Health and social affairs

The risk of accidents is reduced by the creation and application of comprehensive health and safety documents. They also help to maintain staff performance.

  • Quality of the construction work

Before the order is placed, material declaration lists are used to check whether building materials and components comply with the generally recognized rules of technology and the contractual agreements. A target/actual comparison of the delivered building materials is carried out by means of incoming goods inspection. Before and during the execution of construction work, compliance with technical regulations is documented using quality inspection plans.

  • Waste management

An effective waste management system will be set up for the project. Targeted waste sorting and separation will take place on the construction site. This ensures that the resulting construction waste is properly disposed of and/or recycled.
