Redesign of the IHK Cologne building
Location Unter Sachsenhausen 10-26 in Cologne
The construction work includes the complete dismantling of the Börsensaal from the roof to the foundations, as well as the subsequent new construction of the Börsensaal .
In addition, the previously raised foyer in the main entrance with the adjoining part of the west wing and the north wing are to be lowered in order to make the ground floor barrier-free and without thresholds. The original horseshoe shape in the existing building is to be closed by adding a four-storey extension on the east side. In addition to this connecting structure to the east, a four-storey extension is to be added to the north wing. The north wing is also to be demolished as part of the construction work and then rebuilt as a new building. The listed existing façades will be renovated in line with conservation requirements as part of the construction work. In addition to the extensive structural work, the building will be renovated to improve its energy efficiency and the building services will be extensively modernized. This means that the building can be considered a turnkey project.
The project is aiming for DGNB "Sustainable Building Site" certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.

Selected measures in the project
-
Saving resources and reducing emissions through LEAN Construction
As part of the lean approach, a production plan with call-off dates (e.g. insulation) was created. Construction production planning is detailed on a weekly basis and adapted to actual production progress. Changes in the construction process are constantly taken into account and just-in-time deliveries can be better implemented. Repeat orders and new orders due to late changes to the plan are avoided.
-
Measures to prevent pollution from the construction site
The project is centrally located in Cologne's city center, so that noise and dust from the construction site are avoided or reduced as far as possible.
-
Health and social affairs
The risk of accidents is reduced by the creation and application of comprehensive health and safety documents. They also help to maintain staff performance.
