Renovation of the traffic structure at the Ruhr University Bochum
Location Universitätsstraße 150 in 44801 Bochum
Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW is planning to renovate the traffic structure with approx. 1,700 parking spaces in the central axis of the Ruhr University Bochum campus.
The maintenance of university operations, including the supply of the surrounding buildings, must be taken into account during execution by means of appropriate interim measures.
According to the current status, a total of approx. 18,920 m² of ceiling must be dismantled and rebuilt. Local concrete repair measures, including remediation measures, are planned for ceilings worthy of preservation and other damaged reinforced concrete components (walls, supports, brackets, etc.). The technical building services installations of system groups 1-8 are also to be renewed in the course of the construction work and, where necessary, kept in operation during construction.
The project is aiming for DGNB "Sustainable Construction Site" certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.

Certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB)
Ed. Züblin AG is pursuing several goals with this project: A sustainable construction site organization, the conservation of resources as well as the minimization of emissions, responsibility for the health and well-being of the builders, the cultivation of good neighbourliness and, of course, high-quality construction. For this, Ed. Züblin AG was the first company to be recognized by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Selected measures in the project
-
Saving resources and reducing emissions through LEAN Construction
As part of the lean approach, a production plan with call-off dates (e.g. insulation) was created. Construction production planning is detailed on a weekly basis and adapted to actual production progress. Changes in the construction process are constantly taken into account and just-in-time deliveries can be better implemented. Repeat orders and new orders due to late changes to the plan are avoided.
-
Measures to prevent pollution from the construction site
The project is located on a large campus site, so the aim of the construction site is to minimize the impact on students and university staff as much as possible. Various measures are planned, which can be differentiated by the selected construction methods and the organization of the processes. For example, a restricted working time from Mon. to Fri. from 14:00 to 20:00 was agreed with the client and the university for noise-intensive work, such as the ceiling removal.
-
Saving resources and reducing emissions by building in existing structures
By preserving the existing building fabric, a large proportion of gray energy can be saved. The renovation of the existing building thus helps to avoid CO2 emissions and resource consumption. At the same time, the preserved existing walls act as a natural barrier, particularly in interior work areas, and can reduce noise emissions, among other things.
-
Energy management in construction
Construction operations studies and comparative considerations for the most energy-efficient project execution possible. For example, equipping the container system with overhead door closers and motion detectors on the lighting to reduce the energy consumption of the container system.
