Snow storage hall, Oberhof

Location Tambacherstraße 44 in Oberhof
In Oberhof, ZÜBLIN is building a snow storage hall with an external snowmaking system on behalf of the Thuringian Winter Sports Center Association .

This will ensure "snow security" for upcoming major events in the LOTTO Thüringen Arena am Rennsteig, particularly for the Biathlon World Championships in February 2023.

The construction project is to be built in the two loose ends of the "Nordostschleife" and "Schnellkraftrunde" of the LOTTO Thüringen Skisport-HALLE. The maximum snow storage capacity in the storage hall is approx. 7,500 m³, depending on the external climatic conditions.

The project is aiming for DGNB "Sustainable Building Site" certification from the German Sustainable Building Council.

Certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB)

Ed. Züblin AG is pursuing several goals with this project: A sustainable construction site organisation, the conservation of resources as well as the minimisation of emissions, responsibility for the health and well-being of the builders, the cultivation of good neighbourliness and, of course, high-quality construction. For this, Ed. Züblin AG was the first company to be recognised by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Selected measures in the project

  • Steel construction

The supporting structures of the warehouse are made of steel girders. This enables the use of recycled steel as well as a high degree of prefabrication and reduces the construction time.

  • Finished parts

The plinth, which will later be partially filled, is made from prefabricated parts. Once the steel structure of the hall has been erected, this enables rapid assembly and therefore earlier completion.
The façade is then constructed using modular sandwich elements. These enable rapid assembly thanks to precision-fit production in the factory.
The snow factory (snowmaking system) is built using a modular construction method. The prefabricated construction method in the factory enables rapid assembly on site. This means that it is not necessary to erect a conventional machine building, which saves resources.

  • Energy-saving lighting

Their use for construction site lighting, especially for concreting in the finished hall and in the containers, conserves resources.

  • Regional construction partners

Regional companies are involved in the provision of services.
For example: Strabag GmbH from Erfurt, KPS Hallen + Bausysteme GmbH from Kraftsdorf, Ehringsdörfer Baugesellschaft near Weimar and local companies from Oberhof for services still to be awarded, such as building services, electrical, sealing, etc.
