PFAS floor washing
In a globally unique project, PFAS-contaminated soil is washed and then reused instead of being disposed of.
As part of a large construction project in northern Germany, several hundred thousand tons of soil contaminated with residues of extinguishing foam additives (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, PFAS) are produced. Instead of being disposed of, the material is washed on site at great technical expense and can then be safely reused on site.
The performance data at a glance:
In order to reliably clean the large construction volume, the plant is designed for a daily output (soil) of up to 2,000 t.
This results in the following throughput rates of the plant components:
- Soil washing plant 200 t/h
- Sludge treatment 400 m³/h
- Wash water treatment 200 m³/h
In current washing operation, a recycling rate of 92 % of the washed soil is achieved.
