Straubing Town Hall

ZÜBLIN realizes the reconstruction of the historic town hall in Straubing after fire damage, commissioned by the city of Straubing.

ZÜBLIN is commissioned with 3 partial contracts, the strengthening of the foundation of the town hall, the construction of a new stairwell core with elevator and the construction of a third stairwell with elevator, as well as the new construction of 3 masonry gables. In addition, ZÜBLIN was awarded 5 smaller ancillary contracts, such as the site fencing or the exterior plastering, which enabled the complete refurbishment of all 4 floors.

Historic on the outside, modern on the inside.

The four-part building complex, some of which is more than 600 years old, was severely damaged by a fire in November 2016 and will now be restored to its usual appearance on the outside with its neo-Gothic façade from 1893, but will be extensively renovated on the inside to modern standards. In addition to two additional stairwells with an elevator and a foyer, the town hall will be given a third floor by converting the previously unused top floor into a meeting room for the town council. The city of Straubing has placed the planning and coordination of the overall project in the hands of the renowned architectural firm Hild und K; all trades will be successively put out to tender individually as construction progresses. In addition to the earthworks, archaeological investigations are being carried out on the historic building site, which will precede the shell construction work.

ZÜBLIN strengthens the load-bearing capacity of the town hall foundation

Ed. Züblin AG is contributing its expertise to the highly acclaimed Straubing lighthouse project. The master builder work presents the project team with challenging tasks: The planned extension and the new interior fittings require a comprehensive strengthening of the town hall foundation. In accordance with lot 1, the floor slabs will be renewed and the historic foundations reinforced with concrete underpinnings. In addition, the town hall will receive reinforced concrete pile cap beams, which will transfer the loads to the special foundation made of micropiles.

Master builder lot 2 comprises the construction of a new staircase core with elevator as well as the addition of a storey to the listed sandstone staircase, whereby the historical structure will be faithfully reproduced with formwork and reinforced concrete. Lot 3 includes the construction of a third staircase with elevator and the construction of 3 new masonry gables, which will enable the use of the attic floor.
Following the start of construction in September 2021, the master builder work will be completed in September 2024 and then the exterior plastering will be completed from September 2024 to 2026.
