New highway bridge A99
ZÜBLIN implements a major part of the A99 expansion. Following the successful demolition of the existing bridge, the new highway bridge was built.
As part of the planned 8-lane expansion of the A99, Autobahnring Ost between the Munich North interchange and the Haar junction, the overpass structure 33/1 was renewed. The bridge connects the towns of Aschheim and Kirchheim near Munich and plays a central role in regional traffic and local public transport. As part of a coordinated project, both the bridge demolition and the new construction were carried out in order to adapt the infrastructure to the requirements of the future route expansion.
Demolition phase
In November 2022, the existing freeway bridge in Aschheim was successfully demolished by the team from the Civil Engineering division of ZÜBLIN's Bavarian Directorate in collaboration with STRABAG Thalgau.
New construction phase
One of the biggest challenges was to minimize disruption to traffic on the A99 during the entire construction period. The prestressed superstructure with a length of over 120 meters was formed, reinforced and concreted on a supporting structure made of massive steel girders in an elevated position. After hardening, the approx. 3,600-ton superstructure was lowered onto the two abutments and the three piers using hydraulic presses. The bearings and the transition structure were then installed.
Successful completion in March 2023
The bridge with spans of up to 38 meters now seamlessly connects the towns of Aschheim and Kirchheim near Munich again and creates the conditions for the eight-lane expansion of the A99. Thanks to careful planning and implementation, traffic on the A99 could be maintained largely without disruption. Pedestrian and cycle traffic was also maintained throughout the construction work. The successful completion of the project marks a milestone in the close cooperation between ZÜBLIN and the partners involved, as well as an important contribution to the regional transport infrastructure.
