Railroad underpass Lübbenau

With the construction of the new railroad underpass in Lübbenau, ZÜBLIN is making its contribution to a modern, safe and efficient transport infrastructure for Lusatia.

State-of-the-art civil engineering, digital planning and sustainable solutions form the basis for the level-access transport concept in Lübbenau/Spreewald and the modernization of the Berlin-Cottbus railroad line.

ZÜBLIN shapes the mobility of the future: New railroad underpass in Lübbenau

The town of Lübbenau in the Spreewald is taking a decisive step towards modern transport infrastructure and thus providing a central building block for the modernization of the Berlin-Cottbus railroad line: with the new construction of the railroad underpass on Berliner Straße / Straße des Friedens, ZÜBLIN, together with DB Netz AG and the town of Lübbenau, is implementing a forward-looking project that will sustainably improve mobility in the region. As part of the "Level-free traffic concept", the existing inner-city level crossings will be replaced by modern bridge and underpass structures. This will not only improve traffic safety and increase the efficiency of rail traffic, but will also make it much easier for residents and the many tourists visiting the Spreewald town of Lübbenau to get to the town.

Civil engineering in focus: Technical highlights

The railroad overpass is realized as a complex engineering structure and places the highest demands on planning and execution. The main measures include

  • Excavation pit in groundwater with back-anchored sheet pile walls and back-anchored underwater concrete base: Sheet pile walls with depths of over 20 meters ensure the necessary stability of the structure and require precise execution under difficult ground conditions
  • Auxiliary railroad bridges: Temporary structures are erected for construction during ongoing operations to ensure rail traffic during the construction period
  • Railroad overpass: Water-impermeable frame structure at an angle of 65gon. Production in lateral position. Shifting in the end position during a railroad closure break
  • Road overpass: Frame structure for the overpass of the new L49n state road, with footpath and cycle path
  • Trough structure: Water-impermeable trough structures as ramps for underpassing roads, footpaths and cycle paths
  • Integration of new traffic connections: Traffic circles and optimized road connections are being created to improve traffic flow in the long term.

Digital planning and BIM

One key to success is digital construction planning using Building Information Modeling (BIM). With BIM, all relevant data is brought together in a central model, allowing collisions to be identified at an early stage and construction processes to be optimized. This digital method enables transparent collaboration between all project participants and ensures maximum efficiency and safety.

Challenges and solutions

The work is being carried out while rail traffic continues and under tight inner-city conditions. ZÜBLIN relies on precise logistics, digital construction planning (BIM) and the highest safety standards.

Significance for the region

The Lübbenau railroad overpass is much more than just a construction project - it is a milestone for mobility in Lusatia. The removal of the barriers will significantly improve the flow of traffic, increase safety for all road users and create the basis for the double-track expansion of the Berlin-Cottbus line. The project thus contributes to the strengthening of rail transport and the sustainable development of the region.

ZÜBLIN is contributing its extensive expertise in civil engineering and digital planning to the successful implementation of this project. Together with our partners, we are shaping the mobility of the future - efficiently, safely and sustainably.
