Sludge dewatering for the new U5 line in Hamburg

The new U5 subway line will be built in Hamburg over the next few years for the client HOCHBAHN U5 Projekt GmbH.

With a total of 22 new stops and a fully automated subway system, it is the largest subway project in Germany. For Lot 1, several excavation pits are being constructed using underwater excavation and the subsequent installation of an underwater concrete base.

In addition to the excavators, industrial divers are also being used for the excavation work to accompany the wet excavation and prepare the base for concreting. A special suction pump transports 60 m³/h of the mixture of soil sludge and water out of the excavation pit. To ensure that the level within the excavation pit remains constant, the water is recirculated.

ZÜBLIN Umwelttechnik GmbH has designed a sludge dewatering system specifically for this purpose to separate the sludge from the water and dewater it in a second step. The separated clean water then flows back into the excavation pit.
