Test facility for groundwater remediation with 100 percent renewable energy supply

Self-sufficient power supply via PV modules on the container roof.

A long-term pumping test is being carried out on the site of a former lamprophyre quarry, where mineral oils, metal residues, sewage sludge and hazardous waste such as metal sludge were deposited between 1945 and 1970, as a pilot project for a possible subsequent safety measure. Energy is supplied via photovoltaic modules in combination with an electricity storage unit.

Water is continuously extracted from two wells over a period of six months in order to later introduce a tracer agent. The extracted water is treated in a purification plant and then returned for infiltration. Additional pressure probes and data loggers have been installed in 15 surrounding groundwater measuring points to enable automatic and continuous recording of the water levels.

It also works without a diesel generator or conventional power supply!

As there is no power connection in the immediate vicinity, the original planning envisaged a self-sufficient emergency power supply. Züblin Umwelttechnik GmbH implemented this through the use of photovoltaic systems and storage systems.
Once the drawdown target had been reached and the well pumps were operating at regular intervals as a result of the extraction, energy consumption fell significantly by the end of the project.
