Tunnel and trough construction S-Bahn Berlin S21

The S21 will give Berlin a second north-south S-Bahn connection.

The line will initially connect the northern Berlin S-Bahn ring with Berlin Central Station. ARGE S21 Berlin, a consortium of the Implenia and ZÜBLIN groups, is constructing an 800 m long tunnel and trough structure north of Berlin Central Station using the cut-and-cover method.

A 191 m long trough will be built for this purpose, which will merge into a 609 m long tunnel structure. This will end as planned underneath Berlin Central Station, which will remain in operation during the entire construction phase. In addition, ARGE S21 is building an interim platform north of Invalidenstraße to enable the first section of the line to be opened ahead of schedule.
