Dresden City Forum
With the Stadtforum Dresden, the state capital has gained a modern administrative center that unites offices, service areas and public areas under one roof.
Stadtforum Dresden - New construction of a modern administration center
The new building on Ferdinandplatz was realized by Ed. Züblin AG in a joint venture with Dreßler Bau GmbH and stands for sustainable, functional and future-oriented construction in the heart of the city.
At Ferdinandplatz in Dresden's city center, the Stadtforum is a central administrative location that brings together numerous offices and departments of the state capital Dresden in one building. The project was realized on behalf of Kommunale Immobilien Dresden GmbH & Co KG (KID) by Ed. Züblin AG, Eastern Directorate, Saxony and Jena Division, together with Dreßler Bau GmbH, Dresden branch, as a joint venture. The construction period ran from December 2021 to March 2025.
Architecture and construction
The new administration center comprises a gross floor area of around 32,000 m² and combines several offices of the City of Dresden with public areas and an underground car park with 165 car and 371 bicycle parking spaces. The building structure is clearly structured and is characterized by modern, functional architecture that conveys openness and transparency.
The central element is the "Agora", a generously glazed interior space that serves as a communication and meeting zone. The main entrance is located here with a direct connection to the service areas of the city administration. The façade of the Stadtforum is divided into three sections: While the lower levels create insight and openness through large glass surfaces, upper floors in contrasting colors and striking lines give the building an urban, clear silhouette.
The load-bearing structure consists of reinforced concrete with flat ceilings. Around 23,000 cubic meters of concrete and 3,500 tons of reinforcing steel were used during construction - proof of the technical precision and high quality standards with which the project was implemented.
Sustainability and energy efficiency
Particular attention was paid to a sustainable and resource-conserving construction concept. The Stadtforum Dresden is certified according to the Assessment System for Sustainable Building (BNB) and receives the silver award. This certification underlines the high ecological standards of the project.
Two green inner courtyards and an extensively planted flat roof help to improve the microclimate and retain rainwater. The building is supplied by an energy-efficient heating and cooling system with a district heating connection and heating/cooling ceilings, which ensure an optimal indoor climate.
Interior design and use
The Stadtforum offers modern workspaces for around 1,500 employees from the fields of urban development, construction, transport and business development. In addition to office space, conference zones, meeting rooms and recreation areas have been created to enable open and flexible forms of work. A staff restaurant for public use completes the offer.
High-quality materials such as wooden slat constructions in the foyer and in the "Agora", combined with vertical green elements, create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Generous window areas provide plenty of daylight and emphasize the open character of the building.
A place for modern administration
With the Stadtforum, Dresden has a future-proof administrative center that unites the city's specialist offices in one location and enables efficient processes. The new building on Ferdinandplatz stands for the successful combination of functional architecture, sustainable construction and citizen-oriented urban development - a reference project for Ed. Züblin AG and an asset for the state capital of Dresden.
