Gallery building Sengwarden
Along the 1552 railroad line, ZÜBLIN realized a 2.3-kilometre-long gallery structure in civil engineering, which shields the overhead line from a naval radio station and also serves as noise protection. The steel-frame construction with an aluminum monopitch roof rests on 940 bored piles and meets the highest technical requirements.
Sande gallery structure - shielding and noise protection for the 1552 railroad line
Between May 2021 and October 2023, Ed. Züblin AG realized a technically demanding civil engineering project in Sande on behalf of DB Netz AG. The aim was to construct a gallery structure along the 1552 railroad line, which serves both as a shield for the overhead line opposite a marine radio station and as noise protection for the adjacent areas.
The electrification of the line from 2022 required a special solution: the electric train operation would have technically disturbed the marine radio station. According to the Fraunhofer Institute 's specifications, the shielding had to consist of a closed, earthed metal surface. At the same time, the structure had to provide effective noise protection.
The optimal solution in terms of construction technology was a gallery structure with a length of 2,281 meters, which is completely closed on the left-hand side of the railroad and equipped with a noise protection wall up to the roof structure. An open construction with noise barriers integrated in sections was implemented on the right-hand side of the track.
The construction includes Noise barrier construction with aluminummonopitch roofSteel frame construction with supports at intervals of approx. 5 m and a height of up to 8 m above top of railNoise barrier elements up to the lower edge of the roof, in some cases up to 3 m above top of railFoundation on around 940 bored piles with diameters of up to 1.20 m and depths between 10 and 15 mIntegration of steel torsion beams on railroad overpasses and road underpasses as well as construction of a reinforced concrete bridge
The work included extensive concrete and reinforced concrete work with 1.200 m³ of unreinforced concrete, 230 tons of reinforcing steel and the construction of around 20,000 m² of noise barriers. In addition, around 4,000 m² of formwork was used.
The construction work required precise work preparation and coordination, as the work took place during ongoing rail operations. In addition to the construction of the gallery structure, construction roads were laid parallel to the railroad to ensure logistics and material transport.
The gallery structure in Sande is a project that meets the highest technical requirements and at the same time makes an important contribution to noise reduction and the protection of sensitive infrastructure. The combination of civil engineering, steel construction and noise protection makes this project a reference project for complex rail infrastructure measures.
