Multifunctional building Stationsplein Nijmegen
An urban highlight in the heart of Nijmegen realized by ZÜBLIN: The multifunctional building on Stationsplein combines culture, living and mobility under one roof. With two concert halls, 88 student apartments, a café and a bicycle parking garage for 4,000 bikes, the project sets new standards for modern city life.
Innovative construction project in the heart of Nijmegen
The new building on Stationsplein is a modern event center that combines culture, living and mobility in a unique way. Together with KlokBouw Nijmegen, Ed. Züblin AG - NRW Directorate, Dortmund Division - realized the turnkey multifunctional building for the municipality of Nijmegen and SSHN (Nijmegen Student Housing Administration).
Diverse uses under one roof
The building combines 88 shared student apartments (2 to 4-room apartments) on the top ten floors with the three-storey "Doornroosje" cultural center. This offers two concert halls for up to 1,200 visitors, a café with 300 seats and spacious foyer and backstage areas. The ensemble is complemented by a delivery zone with an integrated truck-mounted slewing crane and a bicycle parking garage on the first basement level with around 4,000 parking spaces.
Additional parking spaces and a custody cell were created on the lowest level (laag-2) for the adjacent police headquarters.
Technical features and architectural highlights
The project is characterized by the innovative truck-mounted slewing crane, which enables efficient delivery in the confined space between the main railway station, bus station and police headquarters. Hollow walls up to 10.0 m high, filigree slabs with spans of up to 10.0 m as well as prestressed hollow planks and semi-finished parts were used for the reinforced concrete work.
Special vibration dampers were integrated to decouple the concert halls from the apartments above in terms of sound. Mr. van der Ploeg was responsible for the artistic design of the bicycle parking garage (laag -1).
Conclusion: An urban center with high functionality
Stationsplein Nijmegen is a pioneering building that harmoniously combines living, culture and mobility in a central location - a milestone for urban development and a lively meeting place for students and culture enthusiasts.
