Porsche Design Tower, Stuttgart
The Porsche Design Tower Stuttgart, a striking high-rise building featuring hotel, office and underground car park facilities, has been constructed at Pragsattel in Stuttgart. ZÜBLIN, together with its consortium partner Max Bögl, carried out the structural work for the 90-metre-high building, laying the foundations for one of the city’s architectural landmarks.
A challenging building project at the Pragsattel
With its 23 storeys above ground, the Porsche Design Tower Stuttgart dominates the city’s skyline. With a usable floor area of around 16,000 m², the building combines hotel and office space, as well as an underground car park with 134 parking spaces. The striking architecture and the high standards required in terms of construction and workmanship made the project a particular challenge in high-rise construction.
Precision in structural work
ZÜBLIN carried out the structural work in a joint venture with the Max Bögl Group. The focus was on constructing the load-bearing building core, which provides both the vertical circulation and the necessary bracing for the high-rise. In addition, the scope of works included the foundations, the basement levels and the construction of the entire structural shell.
Particular challenges arose from the building’s complex geometry and the high standards required in terms of dimensional accuracy and quality of workmanship. The structural shell had to be constructed with the utmost precision in order to lay the foundations for the subsequent finishing and façade works. At the same time, the requirements relating to the building services had to be taken into account at an early stage of construction.
A comprehensive sustainable strategy
As well as its striking architecture, the Porsche Design Tower in Stuttgart is built around sustainable solutions. The building has been awarded the DGNB Gold Certificate and meets high standards of energy efficiency and user comfort. The sustainability concept is complemented by a photovoltaic system on the roof of the neighbouring Porsche Centre, which, amongst other things, supports the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
