Community school 6 in Erfurt

Ed. Züblin AG, Directorate East, Jena Division, realized the turnkey extension to Community School 6 in Erfurt for the state capital Erfurt, using modular timber hybrid construction with the MOLENO® construction system. Three storeys with 18 classrooms provide space for 452 pupils and 48 teachers.

Extension to community school 6 in Erfurt

Community School 6 in Erfurt-Hochheim received a high-quality extension with three floors and a total of 18 classrooms from the state capital Erfurt as the client. The new building at Wartburgstraße 71 was implemented as a turnkey project by ZÜBLIN Direktion Ost, Jena division, as general contractor - including planning services for work phases 3 to 5. The new building offers space for 452 pupils and 48 teachers and integrates modern educational infrastructure in an urban environment.

Focus on modularity & sustainability

A particular strength of this project lies in the use of the modular timber hybrid construction system MOLENO® - developed by ZÜBLIN, combining prefabricated solid timber exterior walls made of cross-laminated timber and concrete ceilings. For the client, the high degree of schedule reliability was a key aspect: thanks to prefabricated modules and a systematized construction method, the construction process could be designed efficiently. At the same time, the system offers significant sustainability benefits: the solid timber exterior walls reduce the carbon footprint, can be dismantled and are characterized by a good ecological balance.

Functional equipment and pedagogical standards

The extension is spread over three floors with 18 classrooms. The functional room concept allows for contemporary education with differentiated forms of learning - group rooms, open learning areas or traditional teaching units. The building is designed in such a way that it can be used flexibly in the long term and can be adapted to future requirements.

Construction process: Efficient, on time, high quality

As general contractor, ZÜBLIN took on all services - from planning (work phases 3 to 5) to the shell construction and turnkey handover of the building. The modular prefabrication of the components led to a significantly shorter construction time and minimized weather-related risks on the construction site. The system also enabled precise control of construction costs and deadlines, aspects that were particularly important to the public client. The execution was carried out with a view to high quality standards, technical equipment, an energy-efficient building envelope and long-term ease of maintenance.

Location & urban development

As a school location, Erfurt-Hochheim is receiving a significant infrastructural upgrade with this extension. The new building complements the existing school building of Community School 6 and creates modern room capacities for educational work as well as recreational and communal areas. At the same time, the project reflects the city of Erfurt's commitment to sustainable educational facilities in a growing urban environment.

Why this project is trend-setting for ZÜBLIN

For ZÜBLIN's East Directorate, this new school building is a striking example of the efficiency of modular construction, particularly in public education buildings. The combination of planning and execution under one roof and the use of the MOLENO® system demonstrates how modern, sustainable construction methods can be successfully combined with high demands on deadline reliability and quality of use. This project underlines ZÜBLIN's role as a competent partner for public clients when it comes to the efficient, high-quality and future-oriented implementation of demanding construction projects.
