New building for the UKE Children’s Hospital
With the construction of the new paediatric clinic at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, Ed. ZÜBLIN AG has completed a state-of-the-art healthcare construction project. The clinic complex combines cutting-edge medical technology with the principles of healing architecture, creating optimal conditions for young patients.
Commissioned by the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf, a new 148-bed university children’s hospital with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure was built within a construction period of around 27 months.
The five-storey building comprises highly specialised areas such as operating theatres, intensive care units and a bone marrow transplant unit. Coordinating and integrating the medical requirements placed the highest demands on planning and execution.
A particular challenge was carrying out the construction whilst the hospital remained in operation. Throughout the entire construction period, logistics, safety and noise protection had to be organised in such a way that medical care on the UKE campus remained fully guaranteed.
The architectural concept is based on the principles of Healing Architecture. Bright rooms, a welcoming design and comfortable single and twin rooms create an environment that supports the recovery process and improves the quality of stay for patients and their families.
With a gross floor area of around 21,242 m², the Children’s Hospital stands as a prime example of modern healthcare architecture. The on-time completion and handover confirm the high quality of execution and the successful collaboration between all project stakeholders.
The UKE Children’s Hospital highlights Ed. ZÜBLIN AG’s expertise in complex healthcare construction projects and makes a lasting contribution to the medical infrastructure of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.
